Although under 25’s can legally hire a van, it is almost impossible to find anyone that will provide van rental to anyone aged under 23.
The minimum age to hire a van UK is typically 23 due to van hire insurance. There are also further restrictions for younger drivers such as vehicle types and models, this is because younger drivers are in a higher risk category for van rental insurance.
What age can you hire a van with hirefleet, can I hire a van at 21? At hirefleet our insurance covers drivers from the age of 23-75. However, any drivers under the age of 25 are considered “young drivers” and will be subject to a £35 surcharge fee which is the industry standard charge.
The minimum age requirement is due to the higher risk associated with younger drivers statistically in the eyes of insurance providers. Younger drivers statistically make more insurance claims and have insurance claims that are typically higher than other age categories.
We provide insurance that covers drivers aged 23-75 with a minimum of 2 years driving experience for self-drive van hire.
Please note that all drivers aged between 23-25 will incur an additional surcharge of £35, this is also accompanied by an increase in van rental excess insurance to £1500, if CDW is taken at the time of booking the van hire excess is reduced to £1,000.
