We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Vehicle Technician / Fitter to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing commercial vehicles to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and functionality. Your expertise will contribute to the overall performance and appearance of our fleet, ensuring that each vehicle is ready for the road.

If successful in your application, you will be employed by Nationwide Commercials Ltd, attending to a growing fleet of both hire and sales lcv's.

The Role

As a Vehicle Technician / Fitter you are responsible for the maintenance and repair of our vehicles to ensure they are safe and legally compliant for our customers to hire and purchase. If you are Level 2 Qualified Technician with at least 3 years employment as a Vehicle Technician, Service Technician, MOT Tester, Automotive Mechanic or fully qualified Level 3 Diagnostic Technician, we would love to hear from you.

Technicians / Fitters service and repair light vehicles (e.g., Vans) up to 3.5 tonnes. Applicants must be trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics, from engine and exhaust systems to air conditioning and security features.

Key Responsibilities

Training and Learning:

  • Actively participate in on-the-job training.
  • Develop skills in diagnosing, repairing and maintaining light commercial vehicles.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in vehicle refurbishment techniques.

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of commercial vehicles to identify areas requiring refurbishment or repair.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on various vehicle components and electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Working with parts suppliers to ensure margins are maintained.
  • Prepare or repair vehicles for both sale and hire.
  • Perform complex diagnostics and repairs.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify and solve vehicle problems.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Keep accurate records of services and parts used.
  • Prepare detailed reports on diagnostic findings and repairs.
  • Carry out bookings and record customer information.
  • Record any damages to vehicles and coordinate for repair.
  • Ensure all documentation meets company and industry standards.

Customer Service:

  • Interact professionally and courteously with customers.
  • Process vehicle bookings and handovers over the phone and face to face.
  • Help explain vehicle issues and services performed to customers.
  • Address customer concerns and ensure satisfaction.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Adhere to company policies and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring proper maintenance of tools and equipment.

Entry Requirements and Qualifications
  • Aged 26+
  • Proven experience in vehicle refurbishment or a related field is essential.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of automotive systems and components.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment relevant to vehicle repair.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and learn from experienced staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
  • Basic computer skills for processing bookings, recording documentation and communication purposes.
  • A clean valid driving licence is mandatory.
